Description
A real-life shooting isn’t always going to be a day at the range, where you face your target straight on. Armor systems acknowledge this by having a backplate and, based on our military’s experience in the Global War on Terror, side plates.
A two-way range is 360 degrees
Riding around in vehicles leaves your sides exposed to IED or shots attacking the side of the vehicle. The Padded Multi Side Plate Pouches address this by allowing up to 6″ x 8″ side plates to attach to MOLLE-compatible or Velcro®-based plate carrier cummerbunds. Slender in profile, our side plate pouch also features meshed padding for comfort and increased ventilation. Our wrap-around design holds 6″ x 6″ or 6″ x 8″ steel, ceramic, or polyethylene armor.
The side plate pouch works with most all existing and new cummerbund designs and attaches to MOLLE-compatible and Velcro® cummerbunds. Comes with a pair of color-matched MALICE CLIPS®.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Where do side plates go on body armor? Into a cummerbund. They are placed inside of integral pouches or mounted by add-on side plate pouches. Be sure to check your carrier’s cummerbund to consult if you have side plate pouches.
- What size is side plate armor? Generally, size plates are 6″ x 6″ or 6″ x 8″. If it is a 6″ x 8″ plate then the armor is 8 inches vertically. Some carriers have side plates higher which can cause discomfort in your armpit – unless you are taller. We do not recommend 6″ x 8″ side plates unless you are 6 feet tall or higher.
- Are body armor side plates necessary? It depends. Modern doctrine will have you present yourself to your target head on which maximizes your body armor footprint presented to the bad guy. For vehicle operations and room clearing side armor is recommended since your sides can be more exposed.
- What do side plates protect? Side plates protect the same vital organs your front and back plates protect, they simply protect them from side attacks.
