Armor Ban Introduced in the House of Representatives

<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>“Are we at last brought to such a humiliating and debasing degradation, that we cannot be trusted with arms for our defense?” <span style=”font-weight: 400;”>- Patrick Henry

New York Representative Grace Meng, with co-backings from Reps. Brian Higgins and Chris Jacobs introduced the federal bill on the 16th. The full text is not yet available, but sources have disclosed that the legislation makes it illegal to purchase Level 3 (or III) armor, an industry term for armor with certain stopping capabilities, specifically, the ability to stop most rifle rounds in use by the U.S. Military and NATO.

<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>Of course, this bill would not apply to law enforcement- and it probably wouldn’t apply to the swaths of security guards protecting our legislative elite, either. It would apply to the citizens of America who use armor to strengthen themselves and be ready to protect their rights.

Body Armor Strengthens the Wearer

<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>Citizens are stronger when they exercise Second Amendment rights. Unfortunately, mentally ill and evil men masquerade as citizens, until they snap and go on a rampage. But regardless of these fractional statistical anomalies, it should be pointed out that government oppression has historically shown time and time again to be far less anomalous, and a far more devastating force of destruction to the safety and security of a free people. For the security of our rights, we must hold on to our right to arms and armor.

<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>Body armor is a defensive life-saving device. It threatens nobody. It protects many. The concern is that body armor can be used to strengthen a bad actor. This can happen. But this federal law is not the answer.

Body Armor is a Second Amendment Right

<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>You have the God-given right to own body armor just like you have a right to bear any other arms. The less powerful means of self-defense- handguns and soft armor- are convenient to keep with you at all times, so you can equip yourself and your loved ones for dangerous situations you’re likely to face. The more powerful means- rifles and hard armor- are for times where you’ll need Tools of Liberty against very dangerous enemies- riotous gangs and tyrannical government. The Second Amendment protects citizens’ ultimate veto power. This law contradicts that outright.

<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>And the Supreme Court is starting to notice as well: Just recently, the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that New York’s requirements for obtaining a concealed carry permit were unconstitutional. They should have gone further and ruled that the permit system in the first place is unconstitutional. But they are making some ground for the right to keep and bear arms which has significance.

As Always, Criminals Won’t Care

<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>It’s delusional to think that those interested in hurting lots of people- violating the law, often with already-illicit means- would be incapable of finding protection in makeshift form, on the black market, or otherwise. They aren’t interested in law-keeping- they’re interested in harming people. If armor helps them do that, they will find a way. That’s why they ignore already existing laws<span style=”font-weight: 400;”> in many states which make it unlawful to wear body armor while committing a crime.

<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>The people most hurt by these laws are the millions of Americans who would use armor to protect themselves from evil men and an evil government. But after all, isn’t that what tyrants want?

<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>This law doesn’t even deserve a hearing. Let’s hope it’s struck down cold.
