Be Prepared for Life-Threatening Emergencies

Combat Application Tourniquet® (C-A-T, Gen7)

The Combat Application Tourniquet® (C-A-T), which is manufactured by NAR (NORTH AMERICAN RESCUE), is a proven tried and true tourniquet that should be a part of every medical kit designed to combat bleeding wounds. The C-A-T® excels in single-handed use when compared to alternatives and is both lightweight and compact. The durable windlass system is constructed with a polymer handle which helps reduce weight and tightens down the patented free-moving internal band. This free-moving band applies true circumferential pressure to the extremity.

Tourniquet Options:

SWAT-Tourniquetâ„¢ (SWAT-T)

The SWAT-Tâ„¢ is an innovative, ultra-compact, and economical rubber bandage that wears many hats. The SWAT-Tâ„¢ can perform as a Tourniquet, Pressure Dressing, or Elastic Bandage, making it an extremely effective and versatile lightweight addition to your trauma kit. The keep it simple principle at its best, Stretch, Wrap, and Tuck, the SWAT-Tourniquetâ„¢ has simple methods of application for each role. The SWAT-Tâ„¢ features an innovative visual diagram with instructions on the bandage itself. This diagram acts as a tension reference guide for quick and easy application, letting you know when the bandage is creating enough pressure to perform as a tourniquet or a pressure dressing.

  • Tourniquet: Stretch and wrap your SWAT-Tâ„¢ until the diagram on the bandage indicates that enough pressure has been applied to act as a Tourniquet, or until the bleeding stops, and then tuck to maintain pressure.
  • Pressure Dressing: Simply stretch and wrap the SWAT-Tâ„¢ around the wound and over your dressing as you would any other emergency bandage, then tuck. Tucking the end of the SWAT-Tâ„¢ under itself after wrapping will maintain pressure on the dressing and wound.
  • Elastic Bandage: A versatile elastic bandage that can be used to hold ice or dressings with adjustable pressure, act as a sling, stabilize a twisted ankle or knee, or hold an object to a limb acting as a splint by using the stretch, wrap, and tuck method.

Armored Republic always recommends proper training and proficiency with your gear and all equipment you choose to use.

If you’re in need of a tourniquet pouch, we offer some here that will work for the CAT® or SOF® Tourniquets.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • When is a tourniquet used? It is used in an emergency situation to stop life-threatening femoral or arterial bleeding on a person’s arms or legs (extremity).
  • How do you apply a tourniquet? We highly recommend that you take a free Stop the Bleed class in your area where you can get hands-on training.
  • Are tourniquets painful? Yes, applying a tourniquet is often regarded as more painful than the wound site. A tourniquet effectively pinches your artery closed using torquing pressure around the surrounding muscle tissue and bone. Despite this pain, it is vital that bleeding is stopped as the alternative is often death.
